In particular, the all-wheel-drive technology developed for the car later reached production models such as the 964 Carrera 4, playing an important role in Porsche's technological progress. More than a supercar, the 959 was a research project demonstrating what a future Porsche could be.

Carrera GT

Carrera GT

The Carrera GT began with a V10 engine project originally developed for a racing programme. Porsche built a super sports car around this exceptional engine, combining a carbon-fibre monocoque with a manual transmission. At a time when many manufacturers were expanding automation and electronic controls, the Carrera GT expressed Porsche's commitment to a direct connection between driver and car. It is still regarded as one of the most iconic Porsches to combine a naturally aspirated engine, manual transmission and carbon monocoque.

918 Spyder

918 Spyder

The 918 Spyder was developed to demonstrate that high performance and efficiency need not be opposing concepts. Its plug-in hybrid system combined a naturally aspirated V8 engine with electric motors, using electrification not simply to reduce fuel consumption but to extend performance in a new way. The 918 Spyder was the first super sports car to express Porsche's approach to electrification, becoming an important milestone for the electrified models and technology strategy that followed.

996 GT3

996 GT3

Unveiled in 1999, the 996 GT3 marked the beginning of the GT3 lineage that continues today. Porsche wanted to bring its racing-car development experience as directly as possible to a road-going sports car, and the GT3 was the result. Its naturally aspirated engine, developed from the GT1 racing car, and its emphasis on weight reduction established the principles for every GT3 that followed. The 996 GT3 also ushered in a new era by becoming the first production car to break the eight-minute barrier on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

997 GT3 RS

997 GT3 RS

The 997 GT3 RS expressed the motorsport DNA of the 911 GT3 even more clearly. It used the wider Carrera 4 body as its foundation, with carefully selected lightweight components including an adjustable carbon-fibre rear wing and a plastic rear window. The RS name continued the tradition established by the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 in 1972, maintaining the connection between a road-legal sports car and a racing car.

991 GT3

991 GT3

The 991 GT3 opened a new chapter in the GT3 story. It used the wider body of the 911 Turbo rather than the GT3 body, introducing a magnesium roof and extensive carbon-fibre components to reduce weight. A large rear wing and a dedicated aerodynamic package brought its performance closer to that of a racing car, while a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 7 minutes 20 seconds set a new benchmark. Porsche introduced it as a 'Race Car for the Circuit and Everyday Driving'.

992 GT3

992 GT3

The 992 GT3 is one of the clearest expressions of collaboration between Porsche's motorsport division and its production-car development team. Technologies including the front double-wishbone suspension were inspired by the 911 RSR and GT racing programmes. Rather than simply increasing power, Porsche focused on advancing aerodynamic performance and chassis balance. The result is performance that can be felt on both road and track, representing a thoroughly modern expression of the GT3 philosophy developed over more than 25 years.

718 Cayman GT4

718 Cayman GT4

The 718 Cayman GT4 was the first GT model in which Porsche's GT division fully applied its expertise to a mid-engine platform. Developed with chassis and aerodynamic technology from the 911 GT3, it combined the balance of a mid-engine sports car with the precision of a GT model. With this car, Porsche demonstrated that the GT badge was no longer exclusive to the 911. The Cayman GT4 is an important milestone in the expansion of the motorsport-focused GT philosophy to another platform.
